What Scandinavian fashion looks like 2023
When we talk about Scandinavian fashion we often mean clothes that are black or grey, have a sleek silhouette, and are quite drapey and covering – however, Scandinavian fashion is more than that.
What is Scandinavia?
Scandinavia is a region in Northern Europe and includes Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. These three countries have a combined population of ~ 22 million. Both Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, are considered to be great fashion cities.
Scandinavian clothing styles
The neutral Scandi
Silhouette: Sleek
Colours: Black, white, beige, grey
Feeling: Elegant
Yes, we can still see a lot of black clothes and clothes in neutral colours. A look you can see a lot is a long black wool coat, paired with wide-legged pants or a pair of medium blue or black jeans in a straight fit, an oversized chunky wool or a thin cashmere sweater, and a medium-sized leather bag. This style is very typical of Stockholm.
The colour blocking
Silhouette: Oversized minimalist
Colours: Bright green, hot pink, yellow
Feeling: Fun but grownup
Lately colour blocking has become a trend in Sweden as an antidote to the neutral look. The silhouette is still quite sleek and the clothes don’t have a lot of details – the bright colours are in focus. A typical outfit for the colour blocking style would be a pleated midi-skirt or high waisted wide legged pants in hot pink, worn with blouse in the same or a contrasting bright colour, and a boot or a sandal with a block heel.
The mixing of patterns
Silhouette: Round
Colours: Pastels
Feeling: Playful
A style we see predominantly in Copenhagen is the playful pastel style. A typical look would be jeans or pants, white running shoes, and a colourful girly oversized dress on top, paired with a balaclava and a padded tote bag. This style encourages mixing of patterns; checkered, floral, and striped.
