A roadtrip in Denmark
At the beginning of summer a group of friends, including me, my husband, and our friends Ellie and Conor, went on a roadtrip in Denmark.
After having lived in Copenhagen for four years I longed to see more of our new country. We visited Møns Klint that has been a place that I’ve been wanting to see for years, Odense and Århus.
Møns Klint and Stege
Ever since we first moved to Denmark and I heard about Møns Klint I’ve been wanting to go. It looks absolutely breathtaking on the photos, and the reality was a very special experience. The white cliffs reflect so much light that it feels unearthly. It was very bright and very warm in a very weird way. The view 10/10, the whole experience was not what I expected though. I thought I was going to a remote location and we would be the only people there, little did I know. It was full of tourists and there’s a center just at the beginning of the stairs. The stairs down to the beach where you experience the cliffs from underneath took ~20 mins to walk down, and it was full of people. When we were almost down we met some people who stopped us and asked if we spoke Danish. A teenage boy had just fell down and tumbled his way almost all the way down - a very long fall. He was dirty and looked shaken up, poor guy, but pretty soon staff came and took care of him and shortly thereafter came the ambulance. I just wanted to hug him poor boy.
We rented an Airbnb ~20 mins drive from Møns Klint, and we also visited the small town Stege. A very cute little stop, and I recommend going there, but be aware of the tourist season. Not a lot to do in the area, so if you’re looking for some action you might want to do it as a day trip.
Odense
After two days in Stege we went to Odense. We stopped in the city only for a few hours, and I don’t have any photos from there. But I got a good vibe and would love to go back and see more of the city. Odense is a city they always go treasure hunting in when I’ve seen TV shows about antique’s and design, so it would be fun to do some of that in the future. We stayed at an Airbnb outside of Odense and I shot some photos of my husband, aka Rosy Cheeks, for a single release. The song is out now and can be found here. The countryside was absolutely magical, and I found myself looking for red wood cabins, as that’s something I associate with the countryside, only to remember that’s a very Swedish thing.
Århus
Our last stop was Århus, and wow, what a perfect city. I would describe it as a Scandinavian San Francisco. It’s hilly, and the hills are full of colourful houses, roses growing outside front doors, people selling clothes on unattended racks (less common in Copenhagen, but it does happen). The city was full of cafés, including lots of vegan places, lots of venues and culture events and second hand stores. You know, everything that makes my heart beat faster. As the icing on the cake people were way nicer than in Copenhagen :) I could definitely see myself living in Århus, and would recommend everyone to go there.
Places in Århus I would recommend:
Komma Second hand
Café Harepus
Super Community space
Loppegal
Plant Food
